Fourth Amendment Rights Forum
Several years ago, I had the pleasure of meeting an attorney by the name of Anthony Cotton from Waukesha, WI. He spoke at a forum in Eau Claire, WI. about our 4th Amendment rights as they relate to encounters with police.
While I worked at Smokes on State, I had the opportunity to invite Mr. Cotton to come and speak again, this time at the UW Memorial Union. By teaming up with a student organization on campus, we were able to reserve a large meeting space at no cost. Anthony Cotton agreed to speak for free, since it is a subject he is very passionate about. The idea was to have an open forum about a sensitive subject in order to increase the Smokes on State brand awareness within the community.
Through Smokes on State’s contacts with Midwest Family Broadcasting and his radio ads on one of their stations, we were able to get this event publicized on the air for a very minimal charge. I enlisted the help from a friend of mine, Brian Rosenberg, who is a talented graphic designer working on his Masters degree at Rochester Institute of Technology. He created us a beautiful and engaging flyer for the event, which we printed in house and plastered all over the downtown are of Madison. The event was promoted heavily through social media as well, and had a total attendance of more than 50 people.
